penguins
they are such laughable ungainly creatures on land but the moment they enter the water they are transformed those powerful flippers propel their torpedo shaped bodies through the water at in credible speeds . most of us have seen film of penguins leaping out of the surf to land their feet on rocks and ice . this illustrates well the power of the flippers.
although the majority of the 17 species live in the antarctic , our humboldt penguins live in south america along the coasts of chile and peru. they nest in the little igloos at the back of the pool where they lay two large white eggs in a nest built of pabbles and straw. penguins are most at home when they are in the water , where their shape ,speed and agility can be appreciated .
