harewood bird garden.

harewood bird garden.

the bird garden at harewood comprises an area of about four acres in part of the lakeside walk south of the stable block.
this garden was created over 200 years ago by the famous " capability " brown and lends itself naturally to a bird garden, lying as it does on the gentle south slope to the lake. here still stand some of the trees planted by edwin lascelles _ the towering beech , the twisted spanish chestnut , the sycamore . it is an area of outstanding beauty, with open views across the lake to parkland and woods beyond .
what area could be better suited to the introduction of beautiful , colourful birds ?
in the harewood bird garden , we have tried to collect together a wide range of species from all over the world
extending in size from the cranes on the way to the lake , to the hummingbirds in the tropical house . there are some extremely rare birds in the  aviaries ,some on the verge of extinction in their native countries we hope at harewood to breed as many of these rare birds as we can , and so help to ensure their survival.
